Sweden Wins pt.1 – Hajen

Last night I went to see a gig which was a compilation of four Swedish singer/songwriters called “Dirtfarming and Logging“. And when this girl started to sing, I nearly shouted “No fucking way” through the room because this voice is insane. Adele and Norah Jones can pack their bags and leave with their heads hanging in shame because in contrast to Hajen they sound dull and uninspired. This voice is so full of soul, blues and emotions that you wouldn’t need much more. But you get more. Heartfelt piano tunes and an accordion (enough for me to fall in love) that already show great songwriting along the likes of Laura Marling. The songs feel like home and wanderlust at the same time and have this great winter feeling that somehow only Scandinavian artists manage. As of yet, Hajen is still touring through small clubs with little self-made CDs but if you get the chance, see her live, get the CDs and most of all – spread the word.
