…when I check on an old favourite band and have to discover that they are no more.
This happened to the fantastic Cherbourg who apparently went separate ways. I am a bit flabbergasted because I can’t believe that in all the new folk movement haze this band didn’t get a piece of the action. Maybe they were a bit too dark, maybe British folkfans only want indie tunes without the rock influences that Cherbourg brought with them.
Anyway, as with most disbanded bands, there is always the hope that one or two members will keep going and in this case it’s Andrew Davie, the beautiful voice behind Cherbourg. His songs are very wintery and melancholic and although I do miss the violin dearly, Andrew’s solo stuff is quite something to get drunk and miserable to (and this I mean as a compliment because getting drunk and miserable is only half the fun without the right music). Good Luck to you, Andrew.
